Growing demand across the Australasian convention market created both the opportunity and the imperative to expand the Christchurch Convention Centre — doubling its size to strengthen Christchurch’s position as a destination capable of hosting major international events.

Project details
The expanded facility added two exhibition halls, a small auditorium, multiple breakout rooms and a new catering kitchen, increasing total capacity to accommodate conventions of up to 10,000 people — a step change in what the venue and the city can offer to the international events market.
The scope covered preparation of concept solutions, coordination of local and central government funding, and negotiation through to completion of the land acquisitions required to realise the expanded site.
