Bidura House and Ballroom — Heritage Restoration

Designed by Edmund Blacket and constructed circa 1857, Bidura House and Ballroom is a heritage-listed building of considerable significance — one that has served many purposes across its long history, from private residence and children’s shelter to remand centre and government offices. Each chapter has left its mark, and the restoration was an opportunity to honour the building’s origins while preparing it for its next.

Project details

The works were comprehensive: replacement of the slate roof, façade remediation, rebuilding of the rear veranda, landscape works and a full internal refurbishment including replacement of flooring and entirely new services throughout. The depth of the scope reflected the condition of the building and the standard required of a structure with this level of heritage significance.

Forge managed the project from start to finish — procuring and managing the design team, obtaining all relevant authority approvals, stakeholder consultation, contractor procurement and management through construction, and obtaining the occupation certificate.
