Bakehouse Quarter — Redevelopment

The Arnott’s Biscuit factory in Strathfield has been part of Sydney’s industrial and cultural fabric since 1904. Its transformation into the Bakehouse Quarter — an eight-hectare, heritage-listed adaptive redevelopment — is a project that demanded as much respect for history as it did expertise in delivery.

Project details

Forge oversaw the full modernisation of the former industrial site, managing the careful retention and celebration of its heritage throughout. Historic buildings were repurposed and integrated with new structures to create a precinct that balances character with functionality — a mix that is increasingly rare and, when done well, difficult to achieve.

The result speaks for itself. Today, the Bakehouse Quarter is home to ALDI, Fitness First, WOTSO flexible office space, Harris Farm Markets, over 30 specialty retail tenancies, cafes and restaurants, and major office occupants including Campbell Arnott’s and NRMA. A diverse, thriving destination for work, retail and everyday life that honours the site’s history while performing with confidence as a contemporary commercial precinct.
