Built in 1887 on the corner of Sussex and Market Streets, the Corn Exchange is the earliest remaining market building in Sydney — a fact that shaped every aspect of how the project was approached.

Project details
The works involved a partial restoration of the existing building alongside a commercial fitout for a hotel reservation company, with the design required to be sympathetic to the building’s heritage character throughout. A careful assessment of building materials was undertaken at the outset to establish clearly what could and could not be altered — an essential foundation for any intervention in a structure of this age and significance.
Forge managed the project from start to finish: design team procurement, authority approvals, stakeholder consultation, contractor management through construction and obtaining the occupation certificate.
