In 2008 the Christchurch Council embarked on a new Transport Interchange to cater for the growing demand on public transport. The development included an underground bus and light rail exchange, with a multi-storey mixed retail with green spaces above, capable of meeting capacity and expansion requirements to 2030.

The project required extensive consultation with and integration of critical stakeholders such as Environment Canterbury (ECAN), New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA), community and business groups and Christchurch City Council (CCC) was required.

The scope of the project included leading the preparation of concept solutions, coordinating the securing of local and government funding, procuring and leading the design team, securing necessary authority approvals, and negotiating through to finalising the land acquisitions for the new site.
