AMI Stadium, the premium sports venue of the South Island, New Zealand and the home to the Canterbury and Crusader rugby teams, was redeveloped to include the new Eastern Stand (Deans Stand). The vision for the stadium was to develop it to an international standard, in support of the key tenants and to be capable of hosting a wide variety of events all year round, including sports events, concerts, conference and corporate events, and particularly the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The project encompassed demolition of three existing stands and construction of a new 19,500 seat East Stand, comprising an upper and lower bowl, a corporate hospitality level and premium conference space.  Additionally the field turf and irrigation system was upgraded.

The Dean Stand was particularly challenging to construct due to being located in a residential area, involved retaining AMI Stadium as an operational venue during construction and extensive ground improvement works were required to allow the new stand to be built.

The Project Management scope included managing and securing all of the necessary authority and council approvals to progress the development, followed by managing design, procurement and construction. The project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule in early 2010.
